
RASUL SIDDIK'S Now! Artet at The Luna Lounge

This is the 2nd of our Jazz and the Visual Art performances for the
2009 season.
Direct from Paris, France, RASUL SIDDIK, Trumpet and KATY ROBERTS,
Piano will perform at the Luna Lounge, accompanied by DARRELL MIXON,
bass, and GARY SYKES, drums.
Rasul Siddik, a St. Louis native heard Miles Davis for the first
time when he was six years old. He knew immediately that he wanted
to play the trumpet and that is what he did. And plays extremely well
and has built a formidable career as a renowned trumpter. As a young
player in the early 1960's living here in St. Louis, Siddik was greatly
influenced by Black Artist Group (BAG) musicians Julius Hemphil, Lester
Bowie, Baikida Caroll, and John Hicks. Siddik has performed with Joseph
Jarman, Muhal Richard Abrams and Henry Threadgill, to name a few.
He also toured with Lester Bowie's "Brass Fantasy". Siddik
currently lives in Paris, France where he has collaborated with David
Murray, and performed and recorded with Archie Shepp, Katy Roberts,
and formed a group "The Power Trio, with the bassist James Lewis
and the legendary drummer Oliver, Johnson.
Katy Roberts is a pianist. She is a composer. She is an arranger
and bandleader, as well. She has a Master of Music degree from the
New England Conservatory of Music, and was a professor of music at
Berkelee College of music, Boston. She has been living and working
in Paris, France since 1990 where she is a professor of Jazz Piano
at the Bill Evans Piano Academy. Roberts has performed and toured
the US Europe with her own groups, and has played in Jazz festivals
here and in Madagascar and Zanzibar, and she has recorded with her
Septet, Quintet, and Quartet.
The performance will be Saturday, September 26th, 2009 at
the Luna Bar, 13 Maryland Plaza, in the Central West End. The performance
is from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m., and the admission charge is $25.00.
